1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Product Scans application ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our Service.
2. Description of Service
Product Scans is an AI-powered product intelligence platform that:
- Analyzes product labels using AI extraction that may use GPT-4o, Claude, and Gemini depending on scan mode
- Extracts product information including ingredients, nutrition facts, and certifications
- Checks FDA and CPSC databases for product recalls
- Reports on third-party testing status only when citation-backed evidence qualifies
3. Information Disclaimer
Important: Product Scans provides information for general informational purposes only. We are not a medical, legal, or regulatory authority.
The information provided by our Service:
- Is extracted from product labels and public databases
- Can use multiple AI models to cross-check label extraction and shows supported factual claims only when cited sources meet confidence thresholds
- Should not be used as the sole basis for medical, dietary, or health decisions
- May not reflect the most current product formulations
- Is not a substitute for reading the actual product label
4. User Accounts and Paid Access
Free Trial: Web users can start with 3 free product scans through a backend-owned trial session. Current iOS and Android store builds require sign-in or sign-up before scanning.
Paid Access: After the free trial, eligible direct web paid access is currently priced at $14.99. Current iOS and Android store builds do not sell new digital access in the app until StoreKit or Google Play Billing is implemented.
Promo Codes: Users may redeem promotional codes for bonus scans only where the promo surface is available in the web app or an eligible release build.
Referrals: Users may earn bonus scans by referring friends only where the referral surface is available in the web app or an eligible release build.
5. Payment Terms
- Eligible direct web payments are processed securely through Stripe
- Eligible direct web paid access is currently priced at $14.99
- Current iOS and Android store builds are restore-only for existing backend-owned access until StoreKit or Google Play Billing is implemented
- Any future renewal or pricing changes will be disclosed before purchase
- Refunds are available within 30 days of purchase (see Refund Policy)
6. Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to reverse-engineer or copy the Service
- Share your account credentials with others
- Use automated systems to access the Service excessively
- Resell or redistribute information obtained from the Service
7. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, features, and content, is owned by Product Scans and protected by intellectual property laws. Product information displayed is sourced from public databases and AI analysis.
8. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
- Product Scans is provided "AS IS" without warranties of any kind
- We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of information
- We are not liable for any damages resulting from use of the Service
- Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Product Scans from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.
10. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. We will notify users of significant changes via email or in-app notification.
12. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of the State of California.
