How do I scan a barcode?

Open the app and tap "Camera Scan" to use your device's camera. Point it at any UPC or EAN barcode and the app will detect it automatically.

What if a product has no barcode?

Use our AI Label Scanner! Tap "Label Scan" and take a photo of the product's ingredient label or nutrition facts. Our AI will extract the information automatically.

How many free scans do I get?

New users get 3 free scans to start. You can earn more by inviting friends (5 bonus scans each) or using promo codes from influencers and partners.

How much does unlimited access cost?

After your 3 free web scans, eligible direct web paid access is currently priced at $14.99. Current iOS and Android store builds do not sell new mobile access until StoreKit or Google Play Billing is implemented. Promo codes and referral bonuses can still add extra scans where those flows are available.

How does Product Scans handle accuracy?

Product Scans does not promise perfect results. It stays conservative, cross-checks label extraction when multiple models are available, and only shows supported factual claims when citations and confidence thresholds qualify.

What data sources do you use?

Label extraction can use GPT-4o, Claude, and Gemini depending on scan mode. Supported factual claims use cited sources from providers such as Open Food Facts, FDA openFDA, CPSC SaferProducts.gov, USDA FoodData Central, and other qualifying registries.

Why wasn't my product found?

Some products may not have enough readable label text or a strong enough source match yet. Try the AI Label Scanner to extract information directly from the product's label. Brand, wine, and testing details stay hidden until citation-backed evidence qualifies.

Is my data private?

Yes. On the web, Product Scans starts the free trial through a backend-owned session and lets you add optional email sign-in later. Current iOS and Android store builds require sign-in or sign-up before scanning. Label images are processed for the scan you request, derived scan summaries may be saved to your history, and we do not sell your data. Read our Privacy Policy for details.

How do I delete my account or scan data?

You can delete saved scan-history entries in the app. To delete your Product Scans account and associated app data, open the web Account Center from the Account button or /?account=1 and use Delete account, or open the mobile app's Account & Access screen and use Delete Account. If you no longer have app access, visit our account deletion page or email privacy@productscans.com.

How do I use a promo code?

Use the Promo Code flow where it is available in the web app or an eligible release build. The backend owns promo redemption and bonus-scan balances, while the current mobile store release keeps promo entry points out of the main signed-in flow.

How do I invite friends?

Use the Invite or referral flow where it is available in the web app or an eligible release build. The backend owns referral-code generation and redemption; the current mobile store release does not promote invite entry points until that surface is revalidated.
