Product Scans works in 4 simple steps: 1) Take a photo of any product label with your phone or upload an existing image. 2) One or more AI models read the text on the label, depending on scan mode. 3) When multiple models are used, the extracted label text is cross-checked across them. 4) We check FDA and CPSC databases for recalls and only surface supported factual claims when retrieval-backed sources meet the confidence threshold.

Is Product Scans free to use?

Yes. Product Scans offers 3 free web scans through a backend-owned trial session. After your free trial, eligible direct web checkout is currently priced at $14.99. Current iOS and Android store builds require sign-in or sign-up before scanning and do not sell new mobile access until StoreKit or Google Play Billing is implemented.

What information can Product Scans detect from a label?

Product Scans can detect: product name and brand, complete ingredients list, nutrition facts (calories, protein, carbs, fat, etc.), allergens (peanuts, dairy, gluten, etc.), certifications (USDA Organic, Non-GMO, Kosher, Halal, etc.), warnings and cautions, country of origin, net weight or volume, FDA recall status, CPSC safety alerts, third-party testing information when citation-backed registry matches qualify, and wine details when citation-backed sources qualify.

Does Product Scans check for FDA recalls?

Yes. Product Scans checks the FDA openFDA database and CPSC SaferProducts.gov for possible recalls related to your scanned product. If a match is found, you'll see the supporting database details in the scan result. If no current match is found, the result reports that no recall was found in the checked databases.

How does Product Scans handle accuracy?

Product Scans does not promise perfect results. It is built to stay conservative, cross-checks label extraction when multiple models are available, and only shows supported factual claims when retrieval-backed sources and confidence thresholds qualify.

Can Product Scans scan wine labels?

Product Scans can identify wine labels, but wine-specific details are only shown when retrieval-backed sources with citations meet the confidence threshold.

Can Product Scans detect allergens?

Product Scans identifies allergens that are visible on product labels, including major allergens such as milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame when the label or source data supports them.

Does Product Scans work on vitamins and supplements?

Absolutely! Product Scans is useful for scanning vitamin and supplement labels. We extract the supplement facts panel, ingredients, dosage information, warnings, and check for FDA recalls. Third-party testing or certification details are shown only when a citation-backed registry match is available.

Product Scans can use GPT-4o, Claude, and Gemini for label extraction depending on scan mode. Fast scans may use GPT-4o alone, while deeper scans can cross-check across multiple models. The scan response reports which extraction sources were actually used, and supported factual claims still require cited retrieval-backed evidence.

Is my data private when using Product Scans?

Yes, we take privacy seriously. Label photos are processed for the scan you request, derived scan summaries may be saved to your history, and we do not sell your data.
